Learn to Bring Comfort and Confidence to Birth: Join Our Free Class!

“We want you and your partner to leave our class feeling informed and empowered, with a good understanding of what to expect and how to navigate labor as a team!”

Labor is often depicted as a chaotic, painful event, which can cause a lot of fear and apprehension for new parents. Fear not! Doulas are experts in helping our clients find comfort, confidence, connection, and calm. At The Childbirth Circle, we believe that with the right tools and support, birth can be empowering!

Our free Comfort Measures class has something for everyone. You’ll have a chance to meet our doula team, learn what doulas do, and practice some of our favorite tricks and techniques. We want you and your partner to leave our class feeling informed and empowered, with a good understanding of what to expect and how to navigate labor as a team!

We love sharing what we know with Kearney area families and parents-to-be! Here are some of the topics we’ll cover.

What is a Doula?

Many people aren’t really sure what a doula actually does. Some folks confuse us with midwives, and some don’t even know we exist. So if you’re confused, you’re not alone, and we’re happy to clear things up! We play a short documentary at the beginning of our class that goes over a doula’s role and how we can work alongside your support team to enhance your birth experience.

The Hormones of Labor

Labor is a delicate dance of hormones. Some hormones can be beneficial to the experience, and some can make labor difficult or even painful. We help show how your environment, mindset, and support can influence your hormones. Understanding how your hormones work can help you feel more in control.

Releasing Tension During Labor

Tension in the body and mind can increase discomfort during labor. We explain how to replace the fear-tension-pain cycle with one of comfort, relaxation, and confidence. We’ll show you some of our favorite techniques and give you some things you can start practicing right away.

Practical Partner Tips

Labor can feel mysterious, confusing, or scary for many dads and partners, especially when they don’t know what to expect or how to help. Our class is here to provide practical info, like how to effectively use counterpressure, read your cues, and use grounding touch to help bring relaxation. We’ll also cover emotional support – what to say, what not to say, and how to be emotionally present in the face of the unknown.

Support Tools: Touch, Movement, and Rebozo

This portion of our class is a game changer. We’ll demonstrate techniques to reduce muscle tension, deal with back labor, encourage progress, and provide comforting touch. We want you to go into your birth experience feeling confident and prepared. That’s why we give opportunities at the end of class to practice what we’ve learned. Most things tend to go smoother with a little practice, and labor is no different.

Advocacy in The Birth Room

As doulas, advocacy is a big part of our mission. Advocating for yourself can be tricky during labor, especially in a high-pressure environment. We talk about how doulas advocate for their clients and how partners can help protect your autonomy in your birth space. Feeling like there’s someone in your corner can help you feel safe and secure during your birth.
